Pirates Clean Up Tigers 35-10 in Tennessee

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Football hit the road this week, traveling to Sewanee, Tennessee to take on the Sewanee University Tigers at Harris Stadium on Saturday. The Pirate and the Tiger defenses battled in the first quarter, each only giving up a field goal to make it 3-3 going into the second. The Pirate offense exploded for twenty-two points in the second quarter, giving Southwestern a 25-3 edge headed into halftime. Southwestern would allow one touchdown in the final quarter and tacked on another ten points, bringing the final score to 35-10 in favor of the Pirates. 

OFFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Leroy Rodriguez rushed for a net 142 yards and one touchdown, averaging 5.7 yards per carry against the Tigers on twenty five attempts.
  • Jaylen Spriggs accounted for 207 yards of total offense, throwing for three touchdowns and completing 9/20 passing attempts. 
  • Issac Podraza caught two touchdown passes on his 75 yards receiving with a long of 35 yards.
  • Graydon Thompson caught the longest touchdown pass of the day for the Pirates, one 46 yard reception for the score. 
DEFENSIVE / SPECIAL TEAMS HIGHLIGHTS
  • Caleb Harmon led the Pirates in total tackles with six, tacking on two tackles for loss (1 sack) and a pass break up.
  • Maurion Willimas-Jack recorded three tackles with 1.5 sacks for eight yards lost. He also caused one fumble against the Tigers
  • DJ James broke up three Tiger passes, recovered one fumble and notched three tackles. 
  • Charlie Fournier knocked in three field goals with a long of forty yards on the day. He also averaged 41.2 yards per punt with a long of 52. 
NOTES
  • The Pirate Defense held Sewanee to just 189 yards of total offense, one redzone opportunity and forced four turnovers.
  • Southwestern went for 416 yards of total offense averaging 5.4 yards per play and were 100% in redzone efficiency (4/4).
  • Southwestern is now 3-0 all time against the Tigers.
