GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University Women's Basketball team fell in two straight games to American Southwest Conference opponents, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and #25 ranked Hardin-Simmons. The Pirates hosted the UMHB Crusaders on Friday night for their second game of the season. Southwestern trailed by just nine points at halftime, 25-35, but a twenty one point third quarter extended the Crusaders lead to 55-34 going into the fourth. The Crusaders road out that lead to a 65-42 final result. In the Pirates first road test of the season, Southwestern traveled to Hardin-Simmons to play the Cowgirls on Saturday evening. The Pirates hung with the Cowgirls for the first two quarters, going into half down 26-33, but offensive consistency from Hardin-Simmons would push them to a 70-48 win over the Pirates.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- Freshman guard Alexa Romero stacked up fifteen points coming off the bench for the Pirates. Romero added on six rebounds and was 3-3 on free throw attempts
- Sophomore guard Adrianna McCoy also went for double digit points, putting up eleven on the night.
- Ellie Ward distributed five assists and grabbed five rebounds over the Crusaders.
GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- Trinity Benitez scored seventeen points against the Cowgirls, good for most on the team and was one point off from the game-high eighteen. Benitez grabbed seven rebounds and was 5-6 from the free throw line for the game.
- McCoy and Romero posted nine and eight points, respectively. Together they collected thirteen rebounds with five coming from McCoy and seven from Romero.
- Ward notched a game-high ten rebounds on the night, now averaging just over 6.5 rebounds per game in the first three games.
