Volleyball Completes a Three Set Comeback to Defeat Texas Lutheran

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Volleyball would need five sets against Texas Lutheran University on Saturday in order to come away with a 3-2 win and their eighth conference victory. Texas Lutheran scored two straight set wins over the Pirates, 25-16, 25-16 before Southwestern rallied back to take 27-25, 25-21, and 15-7 wins in the third, fourth and fifth sets. The Pirates remain at the top of the gold division in the SCAC with TLU sitting in third.

"Having a deep investment in your teammates and competing every point was crucial today. We had four attackers in double digit kills and that is a sign of the accuracy of Claire Romo and Annika Flora as setters. This was a complete team effort and we still have a lot of work to do to understand the demands of each match versus high caliber opponents," states Head Coach Don Flora.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Claire Romo and Annika Flora combined for fifty assists, twenty five apiece. Romo and Flora also collected eleven and twelve digs respectively.
  • Christina Kuras went for a match-high seventeen kills over forty six total attempts adding up to a .217 hitting percentage.
  • Geneva Nedrow tied for the match-high in digs with twenty five while scoring three points on three service aces. She also tallied four assists.
NOTES
  • Four Pirate hitters with double digit kills were Kuras, Lily McWhorter (10), Carly Berkman (13) and Emily Marks (11).
  • Defensively four Pirates also had double digit digs including Flora, Romo, Nedrow and Lauren McIntyre (15).
  • Southwestern is 3-2 in matches that have gone to five sets this season.
