Football Drops Game to Millsaps in Defensive Battle, 17-14

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Football dropped to 3-3 on the season Saturday, following a defensive battle between the Millsaps College Majors and the Pirates. Southwestern went into half time carrying a 7-0 lead, but the Majors manufactured seventeen second half points to take a 17-14 victory over the Pirates. Southwestern falls to 1-3 in SAA Conference play and sits at sixth in the conference standings over Hendrix and Sewanee. 

OFFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jaylen Spriggs went 14/29 on passing attempts for 186 yards. Spriggs scored the Pirates lone offensive touchdown on a fifteen yard rush in the first quarter.
  • Leroy Rodriguez rushed for 95 yards on twenty one attempts, averaging 4.5 yards per carry.
  • Aiden Huerta led the Pirates in receiving for the game, catching seven passes for 81 yards and a long of twenty. 
DEFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS NOTES
  • Southwestern gave up four fumbles on the day that led to turnovers.
  • Millsaps scored a forty six yard field goal with two seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter to secure them the win.
  • The Pirate offense dominated time of possession, holding the ball for just over thirty six minutes compared to Millsaps twenty four minutes.
