Pirates Fall to No. 18 Trinity Tigers

Box Score

GEORGETOWN, Texas  –  Now 2-2 in conference play, the Southwestern University women's soccer team fell one goal short to Trinity University this Friday evening.

Trinity quickly took control of the offense and started shooting at the Pirate's goal, trying to score early in the game. The Southwestern defense stayed strong while the offense tried to give Pirate goalie Mary Cardone a break by taking shots at the Tiger goal. However, Trinity's team played to their speed and agility and scored the first goal less than 30 minutes into the game. The goal seemed to pick up Trinity's confidence as in short order the Tigers scored again, taking an intimidating lead in the first half.

The Pirates came back from the half taking more shot attempts at the Tiger goal, however, both teams had trouble scoring. With the clock winding down, the game seemed to be set with the Tiger win until Juliana Chapa headed the ball into the Tiger goal off of Hanna Sanderson's corner kick to make the first goal of her collegiate career.  Chapa's goal seemed to spark the Pirates with more urgency to tie the game, while Trinity tried to slow everything down to burn more time off the clock. With little time left, the Pirates were unable to make another goal and the game ended 2-1 with Trinity taking the win.

Up next, the Pirates get ready to take on Schreiner University this Sunday on Varsity Field at noon.
