SEWANEE, TENNESSEE - Southwestern University Women's Soccer couldn't quite manufacture enough offensive chances to beat a powerful Sewanee squad on the road, 1-0. The Pirates fall to 7-4-3 overall and 0-4-2 in conference play. The win less mark unfortunately eliminates the Pirates from postseason play in the final season in the SAA.
The Pirates were up against the wall, needing a least point to stay alive and then take care of business next weekend. Senior
Erin York took the job between the pipes on Sunday for all 90 minutes along with four freshman, two sophomores, two juniors, and two seniors in the field. The Pirates last faced the Tigers in the SAA Tournament in a narrow quarterfinal loss.
Sunday would be a similar back-and-fourth affair. However, York was pressured early with three saves in the first ten minutes.
Renata Lopez registered a shot off the mark late, but the Pirates failed to put one on net in the first quarter. Southwestern's defensive shape was fantastic as both teams went into half scoreless.
Sewanee found the game-winner in the 48th minute.
Maddie Holland nearly equalized two minutes later before receiving a yellow card in the 55th minute.
Addyson Luna was the final scoring effort in the 83rd minute as the Tigers defense was incredible in a Pirate loss.
