Box Score GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - In what seemed to be a likely overtime for the Pirates and Mountaineers, sophomore
Annie Ewton scored off of a back-heeled pass from Hallie Rutherford to lead the Pirates to victory.
For most of the first hal,f the Pirates had trouble finding their way on the offensive side. Even with several great runs
by Rutherford and Hanna Sanderson, nothing seemed to fall until the second half. Coming out with urgency and
resilience against the Mountaineers defense, the Pirates were able to take the win making them 3-0 in the
conference.
On the defense Mary Cardone prevented the Mountaineers from scoring for most of the first half and the second,
blocking a total of five goals for the Pirates. Mallory Harkins also played an outstanding game by making several
defensive stops including one stop to the Mountaineers with a minute counting down on the clock.
The Southwestern Pirates now look to their next home game Friday, Sept. 28 th against Texas Lutheran at 7:00 p.m.
