Box Score BELTON, Texas - The Southwestern men's soccer team was on the
offensive throughout the contest, blasting 17 shots to Mary
Hardin-Baylor's eight, but were unable to capitalize on the
opportunities, falling 2-0 on Friday afternoon.
As the game got underway the two teams were well matched with
both taking five shots and SU receiving two corner kicks to UMHB's
three.
Once again the beginning of the second half put the Pirates
behind as the Cru's Trevor Shoppach headed in Scott Poole's
crossing ball just three minutes into the period.
Southwestern continued the offensive barrage and turned up the
heat as time began winding down. With their final push into the
attacking third of the field the Pirates were caught in their
aggressive play which allowed UMHB to score their second and final
goal in the 87th minute.
UMHB's keeper, Miller, recorded seven saves during the entire
contest while SU's junior keeper Nick Pierce had two saves in 58
minutes and first-year keeper Daniel Poole closed out the game and
logged no saves in 32 minutes.
The Pirates fall to 1-1 on the year and continue their early
onslaught of games with another match-up on Saturday in Belton.
They will face the University of Texas Tyler at 3:00 pm.
