Box Score GREENCASTLE, Ind. - Southwestern's men's soccer team nearly made it a weekend sweep but feel on a late game goal by DePauw to fall 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. With the loss SU falls to 12-7 on the year and 9-2 in the SCAC and remain in second place in the conference.
The Tigers took control of the game early as they took advantage of a free kick deep in Pirate territory in the 22nd minute. Desmarais found Pett in the box who headed it home to give DePauw the 1-0 lead.
Heading into the break the score remained 1-0 and DePauw went up 2-0 in the 73rd minute when Hazen got the ball to Kamman who scored. The Pirates continued to fight and pulled within one goal when John Mark Mines' shot found its way into the back of the net with just over one minute remaining in the contest. They clock would run out before SU could tie the match.
The Pirates were +1 in shots (12-11) and -2 in corner kicks (5-3) for the match.
Despite the loss Southwestern closes out the regular season in second place in the conference and still have a shot at their first ever post season berth. Southwestern will learn their fate on Monday when NCAA tournament pairings are announced.
