Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

MSOC Stays Unbeaten In Dramatic Win Over Berry College

MOUNT BERRY, GA - Southwestern University Men's Soccer finds another way to get the job done on a header goal in the 85th minute to beat Berry College in the SAA Debut, 1-0. The defense was phenomenal once again allowing zero shots on net, while also getting involved on offense. Junior Cooper Pero scored the dramatic corner kick goal to clinch the match.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Southwestern began a new era on Friday night with the game played in the SAA conference looking to make some noise. The Pirates are also hosts of the SAA Conference Tournament at the end of the season.
  • Sophomore Daniel Sartorio mounted the first chance in the third minute with a shot on net that was saved.
  • Both squads failed to record a shot on net for the remainder of the half. The Vikings totaled seven shots, but were stonewalled by senior Raghav Sharma, sophomore Amar Singh, and Pero on multiple occasions.
  • The second half also yielded very few opportunities as the Vikings were unable to get a single shot on senior keeper Scott Johnson
  • The match seemed destined to go scoreless before the Pirates set piece specialty came to life in the 85th minute. Sophomore Ross Anderson delivered a perfect cross to the back post to Pero's head for the winner.

MATCH NOTES
  • Singh, Pero, and Sharma played all but four minutes in the contest.
  • The Pirates defense has allowed only four goals all season at 0.36 per game.
  • Pero secured his third goal of the season, creeping closer to fellow defender Sharma's team-leading four.
  • The historic first win in the SAA also improved the number 14th ranked team in the nation to 9-0-2.
