Box Score GEORGETOWN, Texas - Austin College snuck past the Pirates 1-0 in
SCAC Conference action on Friday afternoon. With the loss
Southwestern falls to 4-5-1 and 1-3 in the conference while Austin
College moves to 9-1 overall and 4-1 in the SCAC.
In a contest of contrasting styles in the first half the Pirates
used possession play and controlled attacks to pressure Austin
College while the 'Roos used direct attacks on Southwestern.
The match remained scoreless until an AC breakaway put the
'Roos up 1-0 with just under 20 minutes to play in the half.
Southwestern had some breakaway opportunities of their own in the
closing minutes of the half but were just a second behind on the
touch and were unable to even the count before the break.
Austin College nearly went up by two goals early in the second
half on a long shot from 35 yards out that floated towards the goal
but was punched over the net by keeper Sarah Nonaka early. The
Pirates worked hard for numerous opportunities at goal but
couldn't put one away.
AC had 11 shots to the Pirates' nine but SU had eight corners to
the 'Roos' five.
Southwestern remains home for their next contest but in a
non-conference match against the University of Dallas on Sunday at
2:00 pm.
