Box Score GEORGETOWN, TX - The Pirate women's soccer team faced the
University of Dallas in a non-conference match on Sunday afternoon
and dominated the contest in shots and corners and emerged with a
2-1 win. SU is now 5-5-1 on the year and remain 1-3 in the
SCAC.
Southwestern got the scoring started early with a goal less than
two minutes into the game. Laura Ornales played a great ball ahead
to Jillian Curran who changed directions and found a wide open
Maria Pollifrone (pictured) for the 1-0 lead. Despite numerous good
looks at goal SU remained up by just one heading into the
break.
The Pirates continued to press and kept the Crusaders'
goalkeeper busy. Paige Duggins made it a two goal lead on a
breakaway down the right side and hit the goal on a tough angled
shot to put SU up 2-0.
UD made it interesting with a breakaway goal by Sexton with five
minutes remining in the game, but that is as close as Southwestern
would allow them as they closed out the contest for a 2-1
victory.
SU had 28 shots to the Crusaders' four and took seven corners
while allowing none.
The Pirates return to SCAC action on Friday as they remain home
to face Birmingham Southern at 4:00 pm.
