Southwestern University outlasted the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, winning 57-53 at home.
The game was a back and forth contest with UMHB pulling within 2 points with 8 seconds to go. On the next possession, the Crusaders fouled and put sophomore Jennifer Tindle on the line for a 1-and-1. Tindle missed the first free-throw, but senior Natasha Azizi pulled down the offensive rebound, kicked it out to junior Narissa Trammell who was then fouled.
Trammell went to the line for a 1-and-1 and also missed the first free-throw. The Pirates were again able to secure the rebound with sophomore Staley Mullins pulling down her team high 9th rebound of the game. Mullins went to the line and knocked down both free throws to seal the victory for the Pirates.
Senior Natasha Azizi led all scorers with 16 points. Tindle and Mullins also had good efforts tallying 13 and 12 points respectively. The Pirates also forced the Crusaders into 21 turnovers for the game.
The win moves the Pirates to 2-0 on the season and will next face Hardin-Simmons University on Tuesday, November 25th at 5:00 p.m.
