Sophomore A.J. Andreola (Garland, TX/Berkner HS) scored the first three goals of the game as the Southwestern University women's soccer team dominated the Millsaps Majors 4-0 on Sunday (Sept. 23) in Jackson, MS.
It was the Pirates' first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game and Andreola needed just 19:02 to score goal number one with the assist going to Kady Smith (Corpus Christi, TX/King HS) who crossed the ball in. The Pirates put three shots on goal in the first half and took a 1-0 lead in to the half.
In the second period, Andreola scored unassisted with 40:33 showing on the clock. The sophomore completed the hat trick and put SU ahead 3-0 at the 71:03 mark with a header off a kick from Lauren Kjolhede (Round Rock, TX/Round Rock HS) who was credited with the assist. It then took just seconds for Annabelle Ross (San Antonio, TX/Alamo Heights HS) to make it 4-0 with Laura Kromann (Austin, TX/Bowie HS) getting an assist.
Goalkeeper Eryn Snyder (Spring Branch, TX/Smithson Valley HS) made five saves without allowing a goal in 78:52 in goal. Andreola now has five goals on the season while Smith's assist was her fourth of the season. It was Ross's first goal of her career at SU as well as the first assist for Kjolhede. Kromann now has two assists this season.
Southwestern held a 14-11 advantage in shots and a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. Millsaps had six corner kicks compared to the Pirates with four.
The Pirates are now 4-3 on the year and 1-0 in SCAC play while the Majors fall to 3-4 and 0-2 in conference.
SU's next game will be on Tuesday (Sept. 25) at home in Georgetown, TX against Texas Lutheran University at 4:00 p.m.
