Box Score

The SU women's soccer team struggled offensively on Friday (Sept. 21) as the Pirates fell to provisional Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference member Birmingham-Southern College 2-0 in Birmingham, AL.

In the first half of play, Southwestern was unable to attempt any shots to challenge the Panthers' goalie. BSC, meanwhile, was able to put six out of 10 shots on goal and score on two of them for a 2-0 halftime lead.

In the second period, the Pirates got the offense moving and took five shots. The only SU player to put a shot on the goal was sophomore Jennifer Huntsman (Brenham, TX/Brenham HS). Goalkeeper Eryn Snyder (Spring Branch, TX/Smithson Valley HS) played a majority of the game and made eight saves.

The Panthers held an advantage over SU in multiple categories including shots, shots on goal and corner kicks. BSC scored both of their goals in the first half within four minutes of each other.

The Pirates move to 3-3 on the year and this game does not count in the SCAC standings. Birmingham-Southern improves its record to 5-1.

The Pirates will play again on Sunday (Sept. 23) in Jackson, MS against Millsaps College for their first conference game of the season at 10:00 a.m.
