Oct. 5, 2007

Box Score

The SU women's soccer team picked up a big 2-1 victory over conference leader and regionally ranked Rhodes College on Friday (Oct. 5) in Georgetown, TX to remain undefeated in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The Lynx struck swiftly as they took a 1-0 lead at the 1:03 mark on a corner kick. The ball bounced off multiple players in the box before Bailey Morgan put the ball past SU goalkeeper Eryn Snyder (Spring Branch, TX/Smithson Valley HS). During the 14th minute, first-year Danielle Madison (Paradise Valley, AZ/Arcadia HS) tied the game, scoring her sixth goal of the year on a rebound off a Rhodes save.

In the second period, with the score still tied at 1-1, Lauren Kjolhede (Round Rock, TX/Round Rock HS) set up for a free kick during the 70th minute. She sent it in and it went untouched through the box and in to the corner of the goal to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead. The game ended with a 2-1 score and Kjolhede's first career goal was the game-winner.

Snyder finished the game with three saves for the Pirates in earning the win. SU held a slight 12-11 edge in shots and a 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. Rhodes had four corner kicks while Southwestern had two.

SU's record improves to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in SCAC play. The Lynx, meanwhile, fall to 7-4 for the year and 4-1 in the conference.

The Pirates host Hendrix College at home in Georgetown on Sunday (Oct. 7) at 12:00 p.m.
