Junior Casey Grier (Spring, TX/Klein Oak HS) scored a pair of goal and recorded an assist as the Southwestern University women's soccer team won convincingly, 5-0, over Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA on Friday (Oct. 26) afternoon.
Grier scored the game-winner during the fourth minute, putting SU ahead 1-0. Then, at the 12:25 mark, first-year Danielle Madison (Paradise Valley, AZ/Arcadia HS) made it 2-0 with an assist from Grier. Grier then scored goal number two just over 20 minutes in to the first period.
Sophomore Laura Kromann (Austin, TX/Bowie HS) scored the Pirates' fourth goal of the half at 22:44. Sophomore A.J. Andreola (Garland, TX/Berkner HS) added to the lead with her 10th goal of the season during the 64th minute.
Goalkeepers Eryn Snyder (Spring Branch, TX/Smithson Valley HS) and Cheryl Duncan (Fort Worth, TX/Western Hills HS) combined on the shutout with Snyder stopping two and Duncan making three saves. Grier now has eight goals and 19 points on the season, both are good for third-best on the team, while Madison's goal was her seventh.
Southwestern runs its overall record to 12-4 and 6-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Pirates remain one point behind Trinity University in the conference standings. The loss drops Oglethorpe to 0-11, 0-7.
Southwestern matches up with Sewanee on Sunday (Oct. 28) in Sewanee, TN at 12:00 p.m.
