SU Women Regroup to Defeat DePauw 2-1 in Double Overtime

First-year Amy Douglas (Missouri City, TX/Hightower HS) scored her third game-winning goal of the season during the 102nd minute to give the SU women's soccer team a 2-1 win over Depauw University on Sunday (Oct. 21) in Georgetown, TX.

The Tigers had a penalty kick attempt during the fifth minute but Emily Petrus's shot went high. Later, at the 19:19 mark, Petrus put DePauw on the board for a 1-0 lead with her second goal of the year. Southwestern went in to the half trailing 1-0.

The Pirates tied the game when sophomore Andi Miller (Round Rock, TX/Stony Point HS) scored goal number for the year after a DU goalie's save bounced right to her in front of the net. The game remained tied at 1-1 until 2:45 in the second overtime period when Douglas dribbled right at the goalie from the left side of the field and beat the goalkeeper to the right for the win.

SU has won eight of its last nine games and has a 11-4-0 record, 5-1-0 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The Pirate defense held DePauw to 10 shots in the game and allowed just four corner kicks. Goalkeeper Eryn Snyder (Spring Branch, TX/Smithson Valley HS) stopped four shots to earn the win and move to 10-4 on the season. DU falls to 5-11-0 overall and 3-4-0 in conference competition.

This was the last home game of the year for SU and the team plays again on Friday (Oct. 26) in Atlanta, GA for a game at Oglethorpe University at 2:30 p.m.
