Box Score

The SU women's soccer team lost a heartbreaker in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play to the Centre College Colonels on Friday (Oct. 19) afternoon in Georgetown, TX by a score of 2-1.

The Pirates struck first when Sarah Holifield (Sugar Land, TX/Dulles HS) hit the back of the net off a corner kick that bounced around in the box. It was her second goal in as many games.

The score remained 1-0 for much of the game until the 86th minute when Centre's Katherine MacMurray scored on a header off a corner kick. It took the Colonels just 0:59 to score the go-ahead goal on another corner kick.

Southwestern goalkeeper Eryn Snyder (Spring Branch, TX/Smithson Valley HS) played a very strong game in net as she made seven saves. The junior made a huge save on a penalty kick at the 34:03 mark to preserve the 1-0 lead and then recovered immediately to stop a point-blank shot by Brittany Garr. The Colonels out-shot the Pirates 16-5 with 10 of their shots on goal.

The loss was the first in SCAC competition and it send the Pirates to a 10-4-0 overall record and a 4-1-0 mark in conference. Centre improves to 10-5-0, 4-2-0 in the SCAC.

The Pirates will play their final home game of the season on Sunday (Oct. 21) when they host DePauw University for a SCAC matchup at 11:00 a.m. in Georgetown.
