Box Score

First-year defender Sarah Holifield (Sugar Land, TX/Dulles HS) scored her first career goal to help the Southwestern University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Austin College to remain undefeated in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

In a closely played match, the only scoring came when Holifield took a pass from sophomore Jennifer Huntsman (Brenham, TX/Brenham HS) and beat the Austin goalkeeper during the 23rd minute. In the first period, both teams attempted six shots and put three of them on goal. In the second half, neither team was able to get the ball in the net as the two keepers combined to make three saves.

The Pirates held a small advantage in shots, 14-11, while the Roos put five shots on goal to four from SU. Southwestern also had eight corner kicks compared the four for Austin.

Holifield now has three points for the season and Huntsman increased her season total to six. Goalie Eryn Snyder (Spring Branch, TX/Smithson Valley HS) had a terrific game in goal, stopping all five shots that were on goal for her third shutout of the season.

The Pirates are now 10-3 overall and 4-0 in the SCAC. SU has 12 points in conference play and is tied for first place in the conference. Austin falls to 5-3-3 and 0-1-1 in conference action.

Southwestern's next game will be Friday (Oct. 19) when the Pirates host Centre College at 4:00 p.m. in Georgetown, TX.
