Youngstrom Notches Hat Trick in 8-0 Rout of Schreiner

The SU women's soccer team was dominant on Sunday (Oct. 1), recording an 8-0 victory over the Schreiner University Mountaineers in Georgetown, TX.

The Pirates took the lead early when senior Lindsey Abel (Spring, TX/Klein Oak HS) scored her first goal of the season during the sixth minute. Erin Youngstrom (Houston, TX/St. Agnes Academy) scored her first two goals of the game in the span of three minutes with assists from Abel and Jillie Gordon (Fredericksburg, TX/Fredericksburg HS). Shauna Davidson (Allen, TX/Plano East HS) put Southwestern ahead 4-0 with a goal during the 31st minute and Youngstrom put her third goal of the game in the net with less than a minute to play in the first half.

During the 50th minute, Gordon scored her first goal of the season to put the Pirates ahead 6-0. A.J. Andreola (Garland, TX/Berkner HS) scored the seventh goal of the game with an assist from Casey Grier (Spring, TX/Klein Collins HS) and Nicole Morilak (San Antonio, TX/Clark HS) closed out the scoring with a goal during the 70th minute.

First-year goalkeeper Cheryl Duncan (Fort Worth, TX/Western Hills HS) got the start for the Pirates and recorded her first career shutout. Duncan had five saves in the win. Southwestern out-shot the Mountaineers 24-8 and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Pirates are now 4-5-2 while Schreiner falls to 2-7.

Southwestern resumes conference play on Friday (Oct. 6) in Conway, AR with a game against the Hendrix College Warriors at 8:00 p.m.
