Despite out-shooting the Wisconsin-Stevens Point Pointers 7-3 in the second period, the Southwestern University Women's soccer team fell short in its comeback attempt on Friday (Sept. 1).
The Pointers scored a pair of goals in the first period for a 2-0 lead at the half before senior Nicole Morilak (San Antonio, TX/Clark HS) netted her first goal of the season with a feed from first-year Laura Kromann (Austin, TX/Bowie HS). With the score 2-1, Kaylee Weise put UWSP ahead by two with just under 20 minutes to play.
At the 81:16 mark, Mimi Tang (Arlington, TX/Lamar HS) scored her first goal of the season off a rebound from a blocked shot by Morilak, again pulling the Pirates within one. SU's last chance came at 85:42 when Kromann's shot missed high.
Both teams managed five shots on goal and Southwestern held the advantage in corner kicks, 6-3.
The Pirates return to the field on Tuesday (Sept. 5) when they travel to Abilene, TX to face the Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls at 2:00 pm.
