Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

WSOC Captures Gutsy Road Victory Against A Tough TLU Squad, 1-0

SEGUIN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Women's Soccer caps off an incredible 2-0 week with an impressive road win against a strong Texas Lutheran University squad on Sunday, 1-0. Southwestern returns back to form at 5-2-2 overall off to their best start since 2021.

The Pirates captured a big win on Friday at home against University of St. Thomas. However, the Pirates entered Sunday 0-2-1 away from Varsity Field as they looked to change that trend. The task wouldn't be easy as the Bulldogs entered Sunday 6-2 overall, but the past two meetings have been split both ending 1-0.

Southwestern lineup remained the same as Kacey Ehlen stayed in the starting 11 with Addyson Luna out. The first half was extremely tight as both teams manufactured five shots each. EJ Searfoss made three saves as she rarely ever surrenders easy goals as both teams were scoreless.

Senior Jackie Powell has made plenty of impact without finding the back of the net yet this season. However, one of the Pirates all-time most efficient forwards has been hungry to break through. In the 57th minute, Powell powered past her defender and slotted a goal past the keeper for the game-winner. The goal was a relief for the senior which could open the flood gates as she's capable of scoring hat tricks.

The match got chippy as six yellow cards were handed out. The Pirates defense was outstanding allowing only six goals on net and zero Bulldog corners in the winning effort.

GAME NOTES
  • Southwestern earns a big resume victory as TLU's season featured a win over the 14th ranked team in the nation.
  • Powell's goal was historic as she joins an exclusive club of players with 20 career goals.
  • Searfoss and the defense held tough with only eight goals allowed in nine matches.
  • Maddie Holland, Matti Penders, Montse Hernandez-Soto, and Iris McCain played all 90 minutes in another fantastic defensive effort.
