The Southwestern football team announced the addition of longtime Pflugerville-Hendrickson High School Hawks Head Coach Chip Killian to its coaching staff in 2022. Coach Killian has overseen the Pirates linebacker core since the 2023 season and assists in Pirate football operations along with Coach Matthew Carr. Under Killian, Alek Gomez was a two-time All-Conference award recipient, while Blane Corekin was named All-SAA in 2023. Caleb Harmon was another All-SAA selection who was coached by Killian who was also named All-Region. 

Killian retired from his post at Hendrickson High School after 14 years as its head coach. He posted a 100-58 record and led the Hawks to the state playoffs quarterfinals in 2017. 

He took over the Hendrickson football program in 2008 and led them to the quarterfinals after the program compiled a 15-26 record in its first four years of existence. He then led the team to two district championships, two regional championship games, and an undefeated regular season in 2013. 

Before Henderickson High School, Killian served as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Cedar Park High School from 1998 to 2006. He also served as an assistant coach at Westwood High School in 1997 and at Florence High School from 1992 to 1997. 

Killian received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and English from Texas Tech in 1988, his Certification in Secondary Education from Texas State in 1991, and his Master of Arts in Athletic Administration from Concordia University-Irvine in 2015
