2013-14
Cantu led the Pirates both on the court and in the stat line, averaging 11 points and 3.8 rebounds in 29.9 minutes per game. He shot 45% from the floor, 29% from three point range and 83% from the free throw line. Cantu led SU with 61 assists and 51 steals and posted a season-high 26 points twice this season. He was a Second Team All-SCAC pick, was named to the SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team and was a member of the SCAC Academic Honor Roll and NABC Honors Court.

Cantu started all 27 contests this season, averaging 27.7 minutes per game. He was the leading scorer for the Pirates, averaging 9.4 points per game while shooting 45.6% from the floor and 39.3% from long range. Cantu was also tied for second on the team in rebounds, averaging 3.7 boards per game. He also led the team in assists with 54 and was second in steals (26). Cantu scored a season high 27 points against Dominican and pulled down 11 rebounds against Lake Forest on December 30th. He was a Second Team All-SCAC selection while also earning a spot on the SCAC Academic Honor Roll.
2011-12 (Sophomore)
Cantu continued to be a strong presence for the Pirates in his Sophomore season. He played in 24 games and averaged 24 minutes per game. He was second on the team in points scored (226) and points per game (9.4). He led the team with 44 assists, was third in steals with 23, and was fourth in rebound with 72. Cantu was also named to the SCAC All-Sportsmanship team. Michael also was awarded the Pirate Anchor Award, an award voted on by the SU community.
2010-11 (First-year)
Cantu had a sensational first-year for the Pirates, starting 23 of the 25 games he appeared in this season, averaging 28 minutes per game. He was fourth on the team in shooting percentage, shooting 47.3% from the floor and 40.9% from three point range, third on the team. Cantu was tops in free throw percentage (76.6%) and steals (40) this season.
High School
Michael, a four year letterman on the basketball team for the Wildcats, earned Academic All State honors as well as being named the District Offensive MVP. Michael was also a four time first team selection of the All District team and was named to the All South Texas Team.
Personal
Michael is the son of Mike and Brenda and has one sibling, Christian. Michael is an accounting major with a minor in kinesiology at SU.
