Biography

2013-14

Mataya averaged 2.3 points and 2.0 rebounds in 16.4 minutes per game for the Pirates. He shot 26% from the floor and 25% from three point range, 87% from the free throw line. He posted a season high eight points in the season opener against UT Dallas on November 16th and grabbed a season-high eight rebounds against the University of Dallas on February 1st.

Mataya played in all27 games this season while starting 20 times and averaging 23.6 minutes per game. He shot 34.8% from the floor and 26.3% from three point range and pulled down 2.1 rebounds per game. Mataya was second on the team in assists with 46 and fourth in steals with 21. He scored a season-high 11 points three times this season. Mataya was a member of the SCAC Academic Honor Roll and was named to the SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Mataya played in all 25 games for the Pirates and started 9 of those contests. He averaged 17.7 minutes per game and 5.6 points. Mataya made the fourth most field goals for the Pirates with 51. He was fifth on the team with 25 assists.

Daniel is the son of Tony and Janie and has three siblings, Tony Jr., Maddie, and Elaina.  Daniel is majoring in business and anthropology at SU.
