Daryl Jones returns to Southwestern University for his eighth season with the Pirates after spending the previous four years coaching at the high school level. Jones brings more than 18 years of coaching experience across the collegiate and high school ranks.
During his coaching career, Jones has assumed roles as defensive coordinator, safeties coach, defensive backs coach, special teams coordinator, recruiting coordinator, and head track coach. Most recently, Jones coached at Jarrell High School and Taylor High School, helping lead Jarrell to an Area Championship and Regional Final appearance. At Taylor, Jones helped capture a district championship in 2024 and district runner-up in 2025. During his previous stint at Southwestern (2016–2022), Jones coached the safeties and nickels while helping the Pirates capture the program's first SCAC Championship in 2016.Â
Jones was also selected to coach in the Under Armour All-America Game, working with some of the nation's top high school football talent. As a player, he was a two-time team captain and defensive back at Howard Payne University before continuing his playing career professionally with the Corpus Christi Sharks and the New Mexico Wildcats.
Jones earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Child Development from Howard Payne University and a Master of Arts in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine. Away from football, Jones serves as an educator and mentor He and his wife, Antoinette, have four children.
