Sandy is a 2013 graduate from Lubbock HS. In 2012, she earned an AP scholar award, was named as a Junior Westerner Who's Who Top 10 Nominee, and earned the Phi Beta Kappa HS Academic Excellence Award. That same year and in 2013 she was named to the All-State Academic Team, earned Second Team All-State and was All-State Honorable Mention.

Sandy is the daughter of Gayle and William de Haas. At Southwestern she is majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry.
