2012-13 (Senior)
Nelson capped her career at Southwestern as she held the top 200 free and 500 free times. She also captured the top 200 fly time at the SCAC Championship for a sixth place finish with a time of 2:16.80. Her time in the 200 and 400 IM was also the Pirates’ top mark at 2:17.25 and 4:47.98.
2011-12 (Junior)
Nelson had a strong year for the Pirates. She was a member of the 400 Free Relay team that broke an SU record at the SCAC Championships, swimming a time of 3:38.99. The 200 Medley Relay team she was a member of finished 2nd at the conference meet with a time of 1:50.4. Individually, Nelson finished sixth in the 400 IM, seventh in the 200 IM, and ninth in the 200 Fly at the SCAC Championships.
2010-11 (Sophomore)
Nelson was a member of the 200 free relay that took 13th at the SCAC Championships with a time of 1:45.96 and the 200 medley relay that finished in fifth with a time of 1:51.95. Individually she earned seven points for the Pirates in the 200 fly with a time of 2:14.44.
2009-10 (First-Year)
Nelson posted the fifth fastest time in the 50 free this season for the Pirates and was the top SU swimmer in the 200 free with a time of 2:03.21 and 200 fly (2:15.55).
High School
Melissa is a 2009 graduate of Ellison High School in Killeen, TX. Mellissa was a two time captain for the Ellison swim team as well as a three time recipient of the Bret Tate Award for dedication and commitment to the Temple Area Swim Club.
Personal
Melissa is the daughter of Jack and Becky and has one sister, Danielle. Melissa is an elementary education major at SU. Melissa is also president of Kappa Delta Pi (educational honor society) and a staff supervisor for Operation Achievement.
"I chose to come to Southwestern because it has small class sizes and a supportive group of professors who truly want us to succeed. I also loved the close-knit, welcoming community. I felt like I was a part of SU from the first day of my recruiting visit!
