GEORGETOWN, TEXAS – The Southwestern University Women's Volleyball team earned its fifth sweep of the season after taking down Texas Lutheran University 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-22) inside the Robertson Center on Tuesday night. The win moves the Pirates to 7-3 on the season and 4-0 at home.

Texas Lutheran jumped out to an early 5-2 lead, but Southwestern quickly answered and evened the match at 6-6, 7-7, and 8-8 before taking control of the set. The Pirates put together an 8-2 run to take a 16-10 lead. TLU threatened late, pulling within three to make it 20-17, but SU was able to score five of the final eight points to put the set away 25-20. Alta Wilson recorded five of her 12 kills in the set, including four during a 7-2 run that helped SU take a 13-10 lead.

The Pirates controlled the second set from the start, opening with a 3-0 run and building an 11-4 lead. Southwestern continued to stack points with several strong attacks and extended the lead to 20-9. TLU was unable to battle back as Southwestern won 24-14 to take a 2-0 set lead.

The third set was the tightest of the night as TLU took early leads of 7-5 and 13-11 before SU came back to tie the set at 14-14. The teams continued to trade points as the Bulldogs took a 21-18 lead. SU put together a 7-1 run to close the set and secure the 3-0 sweep. Kendall Jurgens, Tatum Ahrens and Wilson provided key kills down the stretch for the Pirates.

"It is a good sign that we are digging a lot of attacks around our block, as we held a good TLU offense to under a .100 hitting percentage. TLU can give you many different offensive looks, so funneling balls to our defense was a key tonight. We had a nice balance in our offense and Caroline Srubar made some nice decisions. We are continuing to develop where we need the ball in transition to certain hitters. Now is a good time to turn the page and focus on the next phase of the season and the SAA conference."

• Alta Wilson registered a career-high 12 kills and has now finished with double-digit kills in two matches this season.  
• Caroline Srubar registered 33 assists and has now collected 30 or more assists in eight matches this season, including each of the last seven.
• The Pirates held TLU to a .096 hitting percentage, marking the fourth time they have held an opponent under .100 percent.

The Pirates will begin SAA play this weekend as they travel to San Antonio to play three matches in the Trinity pod. Southwestern will face Centre College and Oglethorpe University on Friday, followed by a meeting with Berry College on Saturday. All three matches will be streamed on YouTube.
