GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Volleyball closed the SU Invitational with a 3-0 sweep (25-18, 25-20, 25-20) against Hardin-Simmons University on Saturday afternoon inside the Robertson Center. The Pirates finished the weekend 3-0 to move to 4-2 on the season. 

SU stayed composed in a tight opening set, pulling away late to take a 25-18 victory. The Pirates and Hardin-Simmons were tied at 15 before Southwestern began to pull away, using a 5-1 run to take a 20-16 lead. SU closed the set with five of the final seven points to grab the 25-18 win. The Pirates registered 15 kills in the set.

The second set was another close one with neither team able to create separation early. With the match tied at 16 apiece, the Pirates tried to pull away as they grabbed a two point lead at 19-17, but HSU continued to remain in the set, pulling within one at 21-20. SU was able to secure the set's final four points, highlighted by a kill from Sophia Burke and an ace from Izzy Rodriguez to close the set. 

Southwestern completed the sweep with another late rally in the third set. The Pirates trailed 20-19 before Evamarie Planchet ignited the offense with a kill to tie the match and followed that with another kill to give SU the 21-20 lead as the Pirates did not look back and won the set and match.

Evamarie Planchet was named the Co-MVP of the tournament while Kendall Jurgens and Izzy Rodriguez were named to the All-Tournament Team.

MATCH NOTES

• Southwestern registered a season-high 10 blocks. 
• Kendall Jurgens recorded five blocks for the third time this season.
• Evamarie Planchet tallied 12 kills, giving her three straight matches with 10 or more kills and the fourth time she has done so this season.
• Caroline Srubar finished with 34 assists, one shy of her season-high of 35. She recorded 30 or more assists in all three of this weekend's matches. 
• The Pirates finished with five aces to Hardin-Simmons' four. Srubar led SU with three.
