BSB Earns Gritty Split Against HSU On Thursday, Rallying Back In Game One

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Baseball scored seven runs to take the lead in game one to secure the doubleheader split against Hardin-Simmons University, 13-7 and 7-0. The Pirates move to 2-8 on the season. 

GAME 1 | SWU 13, HSU 7 (7-Inning Game)
  • The Pirates came into the week looking for their first series win against a nationally ranked top ten offense in HSU.
  • Southwestern scored the first three runs, but the Cowboys bounced back with two homers as the Pirates trailed 7-6 heading into the bottom of the sixth.
  • The squad turned the tides with seven runs to make it 13-7. 
  • Junior Owen Stevenson, freshman Cory Mathews, freshman Connor Daley, and senior Tres Organ all totaled RBI's in the sixth. 
  • The sophomore Payne Lochridge was the Pirates top performer who entered the game in the fourth down four runs. Lochridge spun four innings in relief, surrendering only one run and earning his first win of the year. 
GAME 1 NOTES
  • Six different Pirates smashed multi-hit performances. 
  • Freshman Alex Ervesun led the squad with three hits and two runs. 
  • The Southwestern pitching staff excelled in damage control, holding the Cowboys to 12 runners left on the bases. 

GAME 2 | SWU 0, HSU 7
  • Southwestern ran into a Cowboys pitcher on top of his game, who went 8.1 innings of scoreless ball. 
  • Sophomore Darion Rogers started the game with his best outing of the year. 
  • Rogers went five innings with only two earned runs surrendered. 
  • The Cowboys swatted two homers in game two on 11 hits. 
GAME 2 NOTES
  • Southwestern totaled eight hits on the night despite being shutout. 
  • Senior Connor Duffey was locked in with a 3-4 game. 
  • Mathews and Adams added multi-hit nights. The duo has combined for ten performances with at least two hits.

Southwestern looks to win the series tomorrow at 3 p.m. against the Cowboys. The team celebrates senior day festivities at 2:30 p.m. for our eight athletes.
