Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

MLAX Defeated By Non-Conference Foe, Colorado College, 18-5

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Men's Lacrosse were over matched against old conference foe, Colorado College on Sunday afternoon, 18-5. The non-conference loss brings the Pirates record to 4-8 overall.

Colorado College came into the meeting at 8-2 with a strong attack. The Southwestern defense came in playing well with single-digit goals allowed in the past three games, but the offense had scored just 19 goals in that stretch, following a tightly-contested 9-7 loss to Sewanee.

The Tigers scored the first three goals before senior Matthew Swandal found the back of the net for his 10th goal of the year. Southwestern struggled heavily on clears in the first half at 7 for 17 in the first with 18 turnovers as the Tigers were everywhere. Junior Trey Pena was also out for the day as the Tigers dominated face-offs, leading to a 8-2 halftime Pirate deficit.

Colorado continued to score in the third quarter taking a 15-2 lead. Senior Jackson Strauser scored on an assist from freshman Marshall Mohun before the end of the quarter. Senior Matthew Houtz scored twice in the fourth quarter to notch a hat trick, but the Pirates were defeated in the non-conference battle.

GAME NOTES
  • Senior Chris Steffek had a career day with six caused turnovers.
  • This marked the most by a Pirate since 2018 in a single game.
