GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University men's tennis team enjoyed a dominant day, defeating Trinity College (Conn.) 6-1 before turning around to beat Coe College 5-2, showcasing depth and resilience across the lineup.
MATCH 1: VS. Trinity College (Conn.) – 6-1
Southwestern claimed two of three doubles matches to set the tone. At No. 1 doubles, Joseph Snyman and Christo Langford defeated Brandon Felcher and John Pope 6-4. Ashton Ellis and Landon Sosebee edged Andrew Nelson and Thompson Brown 6-4 at No. 3 doubles, while Trinity's Luca Garbati and Maxim Golubenko took No. 2 doubles 6-4 over Bernie Clemente and Parth Patel.
In singles, the Pirates swept four of six matches. At No. 1, Clemente fell 6-3, 6-1 to Garbati, while No. 2 singles saw Porter Arens rally from a set down to defeat Maxim Kauffman 5-7, 6-4, 6-1. Ellis battled back for a 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 win over Maxim Golubenko at No. 3 singles. Patel, Alvarez, and Arian Patel each earned straight-set victories at Nos. 4, 5, and 6 singles, 6-3, 6-1; 6-1, 6-4; and 6-4, 6-4, respectively.
MATCH 2: VS. Coe College – 5-2
The Pirates dominated doubles again, winning all three matches. Langford and Snyman cruised past Jumpei Kasai and Bryton Short 6-2, while Parth Patel and Clemente topped Daniel Rohlman and Anthony Schulte 6-4. Ellis and Sosebee battled to a 7-6, 7-6 victory over Ivan Burt-Smith and Joshua Tiemann.
Singles play was competitive. Ellis (No. 3) defeated Bryton Short 6-1, 6-1, Hai Vo (No. 5) defeated Jumpei Kasai 6-2, 7-5, and Rylan Hastings (No. 6) won 6-1, 6-4 over Luke Doig. Porter Arens claimed a dramatic three-set, 10-point final-set tiebreak win 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (10-4) over Joshua Tiemann at No. 2 singles. The Pirates fell at No. 1 (Bernie Clemente 3-6, 4-6 to Anthony Schulte) and No. 4 (Christo Langford 3-6, 4-6 to Daniel Rohlman), but the strong doubles showing secured the 5-2 overall victory.
