MOUNT BERRY, GEORGIA - Southwestern University Football scored first on Saturday before surrendering 34 unanswered against the 18th nationally ranked Berry College Vikings, 34-6. The Pirates fall to a second straight nationally ranked squad, falling to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
The bright moment of the game was senior
Jameer Martin becoming the all-time Pirates program total tackles leader. Martin totaled another massive day with 14 tackles, surpassing Justin Broussard who totaled 248 tackles. Martin sits at 255 tackles after the Berry game with an incredible 69 total tackles this season. Moreover, Martin is now also only 17 tackles away from the single-season record. Congrats the two-time team captain.
The Pirates took the ball and scored their lone touchdown on the first drive.
Tycen Williams returned from injury, but a stingy Viking defense held the Pirate running game down. However, Sims walked the team down to start the game and connected with
Case Messer for the 19-yard touchdown. Messer found the endzone for his first collegiate score.
The Vikings scored on the next drive as their rushing game was dominant. Berry scored on the next three consecutive drives to take a 27-6 lead into halftime. Berry extended the lead to 34-6 at the beginning of the second half, which was the final score by both teams. The key difference was the run game as Berry has a massive offensive line, winning the battle 263-27.
