GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Football collected five players to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District list. The list honors the most outstanding student-athletes at each institution. This year's honorees were senior
Jalyn Lavigne, junior
Jameer Martin, junior
Jacob Smith, junior
Graydon Thompson, and sophomore
Matthew Diosdado.
The eligible award winners must be a sophomore or above student-athlete with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). Each recipient must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played or
must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games. Transfer student-athletes are immediately eligible provided they meet the academic and athletic criteria.
Lavigne completed his career at Southwestern this season as a team captain, along with being named to the All-SAA Sportsmanship team. Lavigne was a four-year consistent force on the defensive line with 56 career tackles and two forced fumbles in 35 games played.
Martin had an outstanding season, garnering his second straight All-SAA Second Team honoree. The junior led the conference in tackles per game at 9.9 by a wide margin. In only eight games played, Martin racked up a team-leading 79 total tackles and 50 solo tackles, nearly breaking the program record in both metrics. The joker safety took down 16 Vikings in the final game of the year for a career-high. Martin returns for his senior season as a team captain and team leader once again.
Smith split time with sophomore quarterback
Jaxon Sims, as both signal callers had strong seasons. Smith was a dual threat quarterback who passed for 1,084 yards and seven touchdowns. The transfer from Texas Lutheran University ran for 566 yards and five touchdowns. The highlight of the season was his dominant game against TLU with 380 passing yards, 107 rushing yards, and five total touchdowns.
Thompson recorded a historic year as statistically the best season for a wide receiver in program history. The junior became the new receiving yards and receiving touchdown record holder with 983 yards on ten touchdowns. The junior was a team captain, along with being named All-SAA and All-Region. He recorded two three-touchdown games and a career-high of 200 yards against TLU.
Diosdado emerged as a leader for the offensive line, primarily at the center position. The lineup shuffled, but Diosdado was a mainstay in the lineup after playing in all ten games as a starter.
