MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE - Southwestern University Men's Basketball struggles against the conference's best defense at Rhodes College, 89-56. The Pirates drop the second game of the road trip, falling to 7-9 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Rhodes came into the game 12-3 overall (3-1 in SAA play). The Lynx lone conference loss was to Millsaps College, but is coming off a massive victory against Trinity University on Friday, 79-73. Rhodes leads the league in points allowed (68.6).
- The Pirates entered the game scoring 75.3 points per game and 77.5 allowed.
- The starting five today included senior Shobby Enakpene, junior Luke Mills, junior Zach Gomez, junior Zach Shugars, and Aedan Lewis.
- After a tough game shooting on Friday, Gomez started strong with five points as the Pirates led 15-10.
- The Lynx turned on a 15-0 run at 25-15. Enakpene came alive to finish the half with 12 as Rhodes clearly put an emphasis on making the senior work for his buckets.
- Southwestern carried a 43-28 deficit into halftime.
- Gomez knocked down his fourth three with 13 points, but the Lynx extended the margin to 51-33. Rhodes used multiple high-level scorers as the points were spread across the stat sheet.
- The Lynx went 20 straight minutes with only one turnover. Shugars was aggressive in the second half with 11 points, but the Pirates eventually fell 89-56.
GAME NOTES
- The clear statistical difference was on the glass as the Lynx out rebounded the Pirates 52-37. Rhodes totaled 22 offensive boards.
- Enakpene totaled a fourth straight double-figure scoring day with 12, but failed to score in the second half in limited time as the Lynx flocked to the senior.
- Lewis ended his three-game streak of double-digit scoring nights with nine.
