MARSHALL, TEXAS - Southwestern University Women's Soccer showed an immense amount of perseverance, beating Belhaven University on Friday night in a neutral sight match with an 85th minute goal. The Pirates played the final 29 minutes with ten players after a red card.
"It was an extremely hard-fought match tonight," said Head Coach
Linda Hamilton. "We are very proud of the fight this team showed after losing a player to a red card in a gutsy performance by our squad."
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Southwestern registered plenty of opportunities in the first half with five shots, heading into the break scoreless.
- The Pirates played the final 29 minutes with ten players after a red card on freshman Sari Hernandez
- The squad continued to create chances as sophomore Lindsey Gomez flicked a header into the net off a perfectly placed corner from senior Cecelia Banderob.
- Freshman EJ Searfoss excelled in her first career start, registering the clean slate on five crucial saves.
MATCH NOTES
- Both teams competed to an extremely hard-fought match. Southwestern also committed two yellow cards from sophomores Matti Penders and Kristine Garcia. However, both heavily contributed to the toughness displayed in the Pirates victory.
- Junior Jackie Powell continues to knock on the door with with three shots on goal, breaking the defense down.
- The Pirates have gone 174 minutes since conceding a goal.
