GEORGETOWN, TEXAS -  The Southwestern University Volleyball team concluded day two of the SU Invitational playing University of Puget Sound. The Pirates swept the Loggers 3-0 at the Robertson Center, but not before battling Puget Sound to a 29-27 win in the third set. Volleyball moves to an overall record of 4-1.

"It is highly valuable to see  things that we focused on in our practice and training show up early in the match. And then our sense of trust and being connected as a team allowed us to get the result we worked for tonight. University of Puget Sound did a very nice job reducing some of their shot selection decisions and put a lot of pressure on us. So, we give them a lot of credit for that level of volleyball. Our blocking was an area that helped keep this match together for us tonight, and that is a tribute to our effort at that skill." states Head Coach Don Flora

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• Senior Emily Marks was tremendous from start to finish in her attacking tallying up fourteen kills, and she was much stronger in her blocking tonight adding four to her stat line

• Izzy Rodriguez and Annika Flora each did a nice job defensively racking up a combined twenty-eight digs

GAME NOTES

• Kendall Jurgens continues to impress as she collected nine kills, five block assists, and one solo block for the match

• Five different Pirates had service aces in the match, including A. Flora, K. Jurgens, I. Rodriguez, Lauren Baek, and Taylor Johnson

• The Pirates will conclude the SU Invitational  tomorrow, Saturday September 6th at 3:30 PM as they face #16 Illinois Wesleyan University.
