Volleyball Drops Season Opener at Puget Sound Invitational

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS -  The Southwestern Volleyball team opened up the 2025 season weekend at the Puget Sound Invitational, battling the likes of Pacific Lutheran on Friday night. The Pirates fought hard, ultimately falling to the Lutes by a 3-1 set score.

"Starting s season always has ways to teach you lessons. And today we saw many phases that will allow us to grow and develop immediately, and we saw things that you can tell we worked on well over the last twelve practices. This team competes, learns and will grow together. We give credit to PLU for the way they handled the ball in serve receive and on defense for day one" stated head coach Don Flora. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • Izzy Rodriguez put up the most digs in the contest (21). 

  • First-year, Chloe Blanchard led both squads in kills with nineteen for the match, hitting a .354

  • Annika Flora tallied forty-one assists for the Pirates

NOTES

  • Kendall Jurgens and Tatum Ahrens were two other Pirates who collected double-digit kills for the match, ten and twelve respectively

  • Southwestern out-hit the Lutes 54-47 for kills, hitting .27 in the third set

  • The Lutes blocked nine Pirate attempts compared to three from Southwestern

UP NEXT

  • The Pirates will conclude the Puget Sound Invitational with back to back matches against University of Puget Sound and Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday August 30th at 11:30 AM & 5:30 PM.
