Women's Lacrosse Ends Season On A High Note

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern Women's Lacrosse team traveled first to Wisconsin to compete against UW-La Crosse, then to Minnesota as the Pirates took on the College of Saint Benedict and Augsburg University over the weekend span on April 25th-27th. These would be the Pirates final three games of the 2025 season. The first contest was a challenging one for the Pirates, as the Eagles defense held strong only allowing the Pirates to score two goals the whole game. The Pirates dropped the first game 2-19. While in Minnesota the Pirates split the games going 1-1. The Bennies defeated the Pirates 23-4 in game two. The Pirates ended the trip on a high note taking down the Auggies 14-5 to pick up another win for the season!

 

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Junior Cecilia Cantu put the Pirates on the board in the third period

  • Hope Culberson tallied a team high of three ground balls and caused two of the Pirates four turnovers

  • Sydney Martin scored a man up goal in the bottom of the fourth period

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Cecilia Cantu was lead scorer for the contest, scoring three goals. Susette Mireles also scored a goal for the Pirates while also leading the team in ground balls with five

  • Goalkeeper Emma Bethke picked up six saves throughout the contest

  • The Bennies controlled the game in draw controls 23-7 against the Pirates

GAME 3 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Susette Mireles was a defensive machine collecting ten ground balls, two draw controls, while also having seven caused turnovers

  • Sydney Martin led the Pirates with a game high of four goals, four different Pirates scored two goals each during the contest

  • Southwestern had full control of the ground ball game, 34-21
