Men's Tennis Defends Home Court

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University Men's tennis team was back at Henderson Courts to face the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Wednesday, April 2nd and the University of California Santa Cruz on April 6th for non-conference matches. The Pirates came out on top sweeping the Crusaders 7-0, while also defeating the Banana Slugs in a close 4-3 match. 

 

MATCH 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Bernardo Clemente was the only Pirate that didn't allow his opponent to score a point within his No. 5 singles match (6-0, 6-0)

  • Freshman Nathan Qi helped the Pirates sweep after winning his No. 3 singles match with scores of 6-1, 6-4

  • Rishi Rajesh played a big role for the Pirates finishing his singles match 6-3, 6-2

 

MATCH 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Oscar Roy and Ashton Ellis dropped their No. 1 doubles match 4-6, but Ellis came back strong winning his singles match by forcing it to go into three sets (4-6, 6-4, 3-6)

  • Clemente came in clutch for the Pirates going 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 to secure the final point

  • Nathan Qi and Nolan Alvarez both won their singles matches in two sets 

 

MATCH NOTES

  • No matches against UMHB went into a third set nor was there a tiebreaker played

  • The Pirates had full control of the courts against UMHB in singles and doubles

  • Three different Pirates went 2-0 over the week from these matches, those being Clemente, Qi, and Ellis

  • Southwestern Tennis will be back at home for a late addition match against the East Texas Baptist University Tigers on Tuesday, April 8th at 4:30 PM.
