Southwestern Softball Brings Home The Sweep Against Austin College

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University Softball team was on the road again for another conference match-up. The Pirates traveled to Sherman, Texas to play a three game series against Austin College Kangaroos. Pirates took the sweep taking down the 'Roos 9-1 (5 innings) in game one, 7-5 in game two, and 8-4 in game three. The Pirates picked up their second conference sweep of the season. Southwestern Softball is now 8-1 in conference play!

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Pirates bats came out hot as they scored three runs in the first inning giving them an early lead

  • Riley Glenn-Millhouse hit the lone double for the day, collecting two RBI's

  • Senior Madison Vela pitched all five innings of the game allowing seven hits, one walk, and collected three strikeouts

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Calle Collier led the Pirates in RBI's with four, three of those resulting from her triple into right center in the top of the second inning

  • Emery Bell had four plate appearances where she had two hits and scored two runs for the Pirates

  • Pitcher Sophia Ytuarte picked up another win for the season pitching five innings, Mazlyn Heyer picked up her second save of the season pitching 1.2 innings

GAME 3 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Pirates were down 4-0 in the top of the third inning until Meghan McCarthy doubled to right field to score two making the score 3-4

  • Jodi Glenn-Millhouse and Erica Otto led the Pirates with four hits each for the contest 

  • The Pirates had a collective eighteen hits throughout the game with only two errors

NOTES

  • The Pirates had a total of thirty-seven hits throughout the series, the most so far this season

  • Senior Erica Otto had a stellar weekend going 9-12 (.750), hitting a double and a triple (1.000) she was a HR away from completing the cycle in game three of the series. Otto added two more stolen bases to her stat line. 

UP NEXT

  • Southwestern Softball will be back at Taylor-Sanders Field on Friday, March 7th as they face Carnegie Mellon University in a double-header starting at 4:00 PM.
