Men's Tennis Opens '25 Season with Win Over Crusaders

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University men's tennis team opened their 2025 spring season at home on the Henderson Courts yesterday, facing off against conference opponent, the University of Dallas Crusaders. The men took care of business against Dallas, sweeping the Crusaders by a 7-0 margin to advance to 1-0 on the year. 

In this seasons new format, there are seven available team points. The team that wins two of the three doubles matches receives one dual match point. Each singles match is worth one point. Four or more points are required to win the dual match. 
In the order of play, three doubles will be followed by six singles with the format for double being three 6-game set matches with a 7-point tiebreak at 6-all. Doubles will be followed by six best-of-three set singles matches as previous seasons. 

Starting the match off in doubles play, the Pirates took the doubles point with a 3-0 clean slate over the Crusaders. In the number one slot, Oscar Roy and Sebastian Herrera took a 6-3 win over their opponents. In the two and three spots, Landon Sosebee and Nolan Alvarez defeated their opponent 6-1 while Rylan Hastings and Christopher Langford captured a 6-2 win over Dallas.

The number one and two singles, Roy and Bernardo Clemente, defeated their opponents with ease, going 6-0, 6-0 in both of their matches. In the number four singles spot, Joseph Snyman took his opponent all the way to the third set, where he won the final frame10-5 in the "first-to-ten set". Ashton Ellis wrapped up his day with a 6-2, 6-1 win over his opponent, while Parth Patel and Rishi Rajesh completed the sweep in the fifth and sixth spots, taking 6-1, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-2 victories, respectively.
