Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

MSOC Falls In the SAA Tournament Championship In Last Minute Defeat, 2-1

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Men's Soccer allowed two late goals on Sunday in the SAA Tournament Championship against Berry College, which was hosted on campus, 2-1. The Pirates fell one game short of earning an automatic qualification into the NCAA Tournament and now await a slim chance of earning an at-large bid in the NCAA Selection Show tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.

Southwestern handled the Vikings for majority of the match, taking a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute. However, Berry scored two goals in the final seven minutes to seal a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Berry College upset Trinity University on Friday, forcing a rematch of a riveting 1-0 Pirate victory back in early October.
  • Southwestern looked to book their second ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.
  • The Pirates found plenty of opportunities in the box in the first half as junior Cooper Pero barely missed on two header chances.
  • 12 shots on goal were created by the Pirates in a scoreless first half, opposed to the Vikings one.
  • The second half was riveting as sophomore Amar Singh nearly scored his first goal of the season on a shifty dribbling run.
  • Southwestern finally broke through in the 51st minute as sophomore Quinn MacLeod played a ball deep into senior Raghav Sharma. The senior squared a ball to sophomore Alessandro Sosa who fired the first goal of the match from eight yards out.
  • The goal marked his first of the season as one of the most underrated Pirate contributor.
  • SU continued to dominate possession as the raucous crowd felt the moment.
  • The Vikings found an equalizer in the 83rd minute on a header. The goal hit the crossbar and fell straight down barely crossing the line.
  • Despite the surprising equalizer, Southwestern responded with multiple chances in the next five minutes with shots from junior Landon Guenther and Pero.
  • With nine seconds to play in the match, the Vikings were fouled in the corner of the box, rewarding a penalty kick. The Vikings executed the opportunity and clinched the match.
