FB Drops SAA Opener at #18 Trinity

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - Southwestern University Football struggles in the second half dropping the SAA Opener against a strong 18th nationally ranked Trinity University squad, 65-14. The Pirates fall to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Pirates and Tigers meet for the tenth time in program history. 
  • Trinity jumped out to an early lead sacking sophomore quarterback Jaxon Sims for the safety. 
  • Southwestern responded with a methodical drive as three different running backs contributed to the touchdown drive capped off by junior Devin Baylor. The transfer junior scored his first career touchdown as a Pirate. 
  • The Tigers totaled two touchdowns in the second quarter picking up a fumble and returning it for six. 
  • Sophomore Blake Garcia was a bright spot on offense, cutting the deficit to 16-14 after catching the touchdown pass from Sims. Garcia totaled 85 yards receiving on five catches with his first career touchdown. 
  • Trinity came out firing in the second half scoring 49 unanswered points. 
  • Southwestern committed two pivotal fumbles and an interception as the Tigers won 65-14. 
  • Junior Cam Roberson led the team on defense with ten total tackles.

The Pirates return home next Saturday taking on Sewanee at noon.
