Pirates Push Past Petrels for Eighth SAA Victory

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS -  The Southwestern University volleyball team continued its strong Southern Athletic Association (SAA) campaign on Saturday afternoon, defeating Oglethorpe University in four sets. The Pirates battled past the Stormy Petrels 26–24, 22–25, 25–20, 25–23 to secure their eighth conference victory of the season.

Southwestern opened the match with a tightly contested first set, trading points throughout before pulling away late to win 26–24. Oglethorpe responded in the second frame, using a late surge to even the match at one set apiece. The Pirates regained control in the third set behind consistent serving and strong net play, taking a 25–20 win. In the fourth, Southwestern held off a late Oglethorpe rally, closing out the match 25–23 to earn the 3–1 victory. The win marks Southwestern's eighth SAA victory and showcases the team's depth and composure as they continue to build momentum late in the season.

"This match had some unusual ebbs and flows, and credit to Oglethorpe for their defensive effort — they came up with some incredible, almost mystery digs at big moments," said Head Coach Don Flora. "We faced some adversity with our available personnel today, and it really required everyone to step up for their teammates. This group stuck together and battled through it."

"We still have some key areas to clean up and clarify," Flora added. "But as we continue to grow and ascend, I'm proud of how resilient and connected this team remains."
