Men's Swim Caps off Home Schedule Against UT - Permian Basin

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern Men's Swim team concluded their home schedule at Walzel Natatorium on Saturday, going up against the Falcons from the University of Texas - Permian Basin in a dual meet. The Pirates came away with five event wins and three runner-up finishes. Southwestern will have one more meet to prepare for the conference championships, which will take place from February 12th - 15th in Garland, Texas.

HIGHLIGHTS (First Place Finishes)
  • 200 Medley Relay - The Pirates kicked off the dual meet with a tight victory in the relay race. The team of Owen Rodrigue, Luke Lawhon, Marc Galindo and Eli Alle, beat out the Falcon by just nine hundredths of a second (1:37.87 against 1:37.96). 
  • 100 Breaststroke - Freshman Luke Lawhon beat out a UTPB swimmer for first place in the eighth event of the day. Lawhon won the event by just under two seconds (1.9) at a time of 1:00.70.
  • 50 Freestyle - Eli Allen and Marc Galindo took both first and second position in the sprint race at 21.21 and 22.37, respectively. 
  • 200 Backstroke - Andrew Renninger pulled out a narrow victory in his event, defeating UTPB by half a second and coming in at a time of 1:59.14. 
  • 200 IM - Continuing with close race finishes, Renninger came in a tie for first in the individual medley. He and a Falcon both put in times of 2:01.68 scoring 6.5 points for their respective teams. 
NOTABLE FINISHES
  • 100 Freestyle - Keddie Ramsden earned a runner-up finish in event number eighteen of the meet, posting a time of 50.44 with the winner coming in at 49.37.
  • 200 Freestyle Relay - In the last event of the meet, the Pirate team of Alle, Galindo, Rodrigue and Tim Young missed out on first place by just a .12 second margin, pulling in at 1:28.74 behind UTPB.

  • Southwestern will conclude the regular season with a dual meet at McMurry University on Friday, January 31st at 5:00 PM in Abiliene, Texas.
