Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GEORGETOWN, TEXAS -  The Southwestern University Volleyball team opened up the 2024 season this weekend at the Aurora Invitational, battling the likes of Aurora University and Elmhurst University in back to back contests on Friday. The Pirates came away victorious in both of their match-ups, first defeating Aurora by a 3-1 margin and then taking a win off the Bluejays by another 3-1 set score. 

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

• Carly Berkman led the Pirates in kills with sixteen on the match for 17.5 total points
• Junior Payton Shiflet was second on the team in digs with twenty-one while adding twelve kills. 
• Annika Flora tied her career-high in assists, racking up thirty-one for the game. 

NOTES

• Four different Pirates collected double-digit kills including Emily Marks (10) and Christina Kuras (11)
• The Pirates killed at 32.4 % in the second set, the highest of the match for either team. 
• Southwestern totaled 88 digs for the contest compared to 78 for the Spartans. 

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

• Brooklyn Spikes led both squads in block assists tallying nine in the contest. 
• Berkman went for thirty-two kills on day, matching her first game with sixteen against Elmhurst. 
• Emily Marks had a career-high twelve kills against the Bluejays adding five block assists. 

NOTES

• The Pirate defense came away with 15.5 total blocks on the match. Kuras and Lily McWhorter each had five and six block assists respectively. 
• Geneva Nedrow led both teams with twenty-five digs, ten more than the next player. 
• Southwestern's defense held the Bluejays to just a .085 hitting percentage on the match.
