Pirates Surrender in Overtime to Texas Lutheran

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Football concluded their season Saturday afternoon following a heart breaking loss to the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs in overtime. The Pirates lead Texas Lutheran throughout the second and third quarters at Bulldog Stadium, putting up a touchdown in the second and a field goal in the third to give them a 10-0 lead going into the fourth. The Bulldogs managed ten fourth quarter points including a game tying touchdown drive with 33 seconds left on the clock. The Bulldogs took the first possession and made good on their opportunity taking a 17-10 lead. On the Pirates final possession, the Bulldogs intercepted a pass from the Pirates on third and ten to secure the 17-10 victory.

OFFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS
  •  Jaylen Spriggs netted ninety yards on the ground, averaging 4.7 yards per carry. He threw one touchdown and a long pass of 32 yards.
  • Tight end Jacob Washburn caught the lone touchdown pass of the game on a five yard completion to the endzone.
  • Black Garcia led the Pirates in receiving with 68 yards on three receptions and a long catch of 29 yards.
DEFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS / SPECIAL TEAMS
  • Charlie Fournier gave the Pirates the second score of the game off a 33 yard field goal late in the third quarter.
  • Aidan O'Connell racked up ten tackles with a sack, 1.5 TFLs, and a forced fumble against the Bulldogs.
  • Cesar Navarro also posted ten tackles and returned a fumble recovery for sixty three yards. 
  • J.P. Reyes forced two fumbles and was the third Pirate to record ten tackles in the game. The defensive back also broke up one TLU pass. 
NOTES
  • The Southwestern defense totaled five tackles for loss including two sacks, three forced fumbles, one interception and four pass break ups against TLU.
  • The Pirate offense rushed for over 100 yards in the ninth consecutive game on Saturday totaling 182 yards on the ground. The Pirates rushed for 1,818 yards this season (4.1 yards per carry).
  • Southwestern dominated time of possession for the game, holding the ball for 34:35 minutes against 25:25 from Texas Lutheran.
